Course Description

Fundamental Courses
History of Modern Art (2 credits)
The course explores the history of art as a means of reading contemporary phenomena: the language of art, its contexts and fields, the question of image, its forming and use, from the beginning of the industrial era to the current influences of technological developments and communication media.

History of Design (2 credits)
The course explores the history of design. From the historical point of view, it sorts out the development of modern design, briefly introduces the development and changes of design styles in Europe, America, Asia and other regions, and understands the connection between design and society, culture, politics and economy.

Computer-aided Design I (4 credits)
It is through computer software to assist in mind designers in designing the work as most authentic, and the most perfect appearence, that the artistic design is one of essential skills of students . This course through the concrete examples of the design works with operation explained, enables the student in the related software functions with clearly cognitive ability and skilled operational ability, that professional design for the future lays a good professional foundation.

Computer-aided Design II (4 credits)
This course will let students learn computer design tools and techniques. We encourage students to broaden their thinking, and be communicative and innovative in computer design technology. Students will have the ability to produce high-level renderings independently, and lay the foundation for design performance in the future.

Form (basic) (3 credits)
This is a basic course of Form in the design programme. It enhances students' ability to observe, analyze, and express objective things through training students' hand-painted comprehensive ability. This course cultivates students' pursuit of artistic creation, individuality, creative thinking, and a comprehensive artistic accomplishment.

Form (Advanced) (3 credits)
This is an advanced course of Form in the design programme. It cultivates and enhances students' observation, perception, thinking and expressiveness through a comprehensive training of styling and color, thus improves students' analytical skills and visual presentation ability.

Two-dimensional Design Foundation (4 credits)
This course focuses on the rule of decomposing and combining the basic elements of modeling in two-dimensional plane to form an ideal form, so that students can grasp the possibilities of combining abstract basic forms in plane. The course also pays attention to cultivating students'logical and associative abilities in modeling. Let students understand the basic elements of color, the composition principle of color elements, and the changeable characteristics of color in space, quality and quantity, understand the material properties, visual effects and psychological effects of color language, and train students'color accomplishment and coloring techniques.

Three-dimensional Design Foundation (3 credits)
This course helps students study shapes and space to explore various vertical shapes and understand the philosophy and methodology of model design in three dimensions. The course is also aimed to improve students understanding and their imagination of objects in three dimensions, and develop their capacity to create three-dimensional visual images.

Basic Photography (2 credits)
This course not only develops students skills and creativity in photography, but also provides students with the resources and inspiration to explore and think, and consequently develop their cultural realization and the ability to express their ideas by taking photos. The course essentially helps students learn to utilize such ability to do various designs.

Design Planning and Information Management (3 credits)
Planning is to design activities designated to provide an initial basis for the design process to support multi-point and condition, results of the multiple stages of the design evaluation, selection, deepening and control of activities that is designed to give the value of the cumulative results of the system, but also from Innovative sources of the deep structure of the problem solving process, which is directed at the essence of the doctrine of design. Design objects and the information are related to access to information, analysis, processing of the scientific method. The whole courses is an introduce at the basic of method of information management, that is keen to find problems, creative problem solving, and learning about design methods.

Workshop I (1 credits)
Inviting domestic and national top designers to direct short-term training for the second grade students in order to absorb the most updates design concept.

Workshop II (1 credits)
Inviting domestic and national top designers to direct short-term training for the third grade students in order to absorb the most updates design concept.

Academic Lectures (1 credits)
In the period of 4 years studies, students are required to fulfill at least 20 academic activities recognized by the faculty, for example, the academic lectures organized by the faculty. Students need to complete and hand in a report with no less than 800 words for each academic activity as well as to be reviewed by mentor.

Major: Product Design
Product Design History (3 credits)
The course mainly introduces students to Chinese and foreign design history and the analysis and appreciation of outstanding works. Students will understand the typical characteristics of the design history and the fashion trends of today's design work, the design aesthetics of traditional design, and the contemporary design aesthetic ideas.

Luxury Brand Strategy (3 credits)
In-depth understanding of the concept of luxury and luxury market, understanding of luxury consumption mode, luxury market business dynamics, luxury brand establishment of several different models to understand brand definition, brand communication, strategic brand management.

Product Presentation Techniques (3 credits)
Product Presenting Tactics is a compulsory course in industrial design. It covers the basis, tactics and basic training in products representing, and the relationship between computer-assisted diagram and hand-drawn diagram. It also teaches students how to draw effect pictures of product design and produce product models. It enables students to understand various methods in presenting products in a systematic way, and improve their capacity in presenting product design accurately, vividly and artistically.

Material and Construction (3 credits)
The course focuses on the common materials used in the industrial product design. It is an important intermediary course between fundamental courses and major courses. Through the combination of theory and practice, students will understand the basic shapes cut and transition methods and basic principles of formal beauty. They will also understand the influence of materials, craft, and economic factors on the industrial product design.

Model Making (4 credits)
This course helps students learn to skillfully select models, use tools, make and reconstruct models. The course also helps students make models to assist the design, express their creative ideas, receive the design effect through model making and then practically apply model making to the design of architecture, indoor environment and industrial products.

Fashion Design I (4 credits)
The Fashion Design course introduces the basic tools and methods that students need , as well as the basic fashion techniques and methods that designers need.

Fashion Design II (4 credits)
In the course, students will design a fashion product project, start from a concept, develop design scheme, select materials, implementation method and presentation carrier, and finally complete a complete fashion product project, taking into account the quality.

Textile Design (4 credits)
The course is designed to familiarize students with the technical processes and tools required for textile design, material handling, embroidery, dyeing, printing and painting, and apply them to fashion design projects. This course is a practical course, such as textile design technology.

Product Research and Development (4 credits)
This course emphasizes the concept that product design should be human-oriented and serving the society. It aims to acquaint students with the correct procedures and methodologies in product design and enables students to independently complete and improve their design. It also cultivates the students practical ability in filing and implementing product research, development, and design under the current commercial environment.

Creative Product Design (4 credits)
This course mainly focuses on the basic procedures of product design. The course will provide students a full description of the product design process and the various elements in product design, including style, concept, mindset, tradition, culture, and products meanings and symbols. Students will have a complete understanding of the creative product design knowledge.

Jewelry Design (4 credits)
The course provides comprehensive knowledge of jewelry design and hand-drawing skills, the relationship between jewelry design and fashion styles, jewelry making skills of different types and precious metal processing methods.

Fashion Display (4 credits)
This course will connect the project design and fashion display, design program performance and communication, and solve the exhibition and communication problems related to project design through the study of fashion display, color, lighting, style and other contents.

Graduation Design (10 credits)

Graduation design is final year students majoring in arts design class of a comprehensive curriculum design, is to make the students' comprehensive application in recent years the school knowledge, combined with the complete design task, to design a system of comprehensive solution project of comprehensive training.

Internship (2 credits)

Major: Landscape Design
History of Chinese and Foreign Architecture (3 credits)

Building Structure and Equipment (3 credits)
Course of construction, landscape and interior important technical basis of professional courses. GIS For Landscape Design (2 credits)
This course is the core course of professional skills and the application course of GIS in landscape design. It mainly teaches the functions of collecting, storing, reading, checking, processing, managing, analyzing and displaying geographical data of GIS. It provides support, data sharing and services for students facing complex landscape planning issues and decisions. This course is a cross-disciplinary science course. It is of great significance for students to get in touch with cutting-edge issues and provide tools for systematic thinking.

Environmental Impact Assessment (3 credits)
This course is the core course of professional skills, which mainly includes three parts: (1) the concept of ecological land use planning; (2) the relationship between natural environmental factors and land use; and (3) the analysis method of environmental planning.

Urban Environmental Physics (3 credits)
This course is the core course of professional theory and an important link before the development of professional design course. It mainly teaches the urban physical environment foundation related to professional design, human and urban physical environment, urban light, heat, atmosphere, climate and other environment and environmental assessment.

Public Art (3 credits)
Public art, as a new artistic idea which combines the concept of public, populace, and art, is an important part of the civic culture. It represents a new trend of the relationship between art and city, between art and populace, and between art and social relations. The course will pay great attention to students ability to design with diversified methods. It will enable students to study the urban space and culture and interactive relationship between environment and art from a broader and more humanistic perspective.

Planting Design (3 credits)
This course will systematically introduces the concept, classification, ornamental characteristics, configuration and application, and other theoretical knowledge of landscape plants. It will enable students to understand the local common morphological characteristics, ornamental characteristics, and ecological characteristics of plants, and the basic methods and processes in planting design as well.

Model Making (4 credits)
This course helps students learn to skillfully select models, use tools, make and reconstruct models. The course also helps students make models to assist the design, express their creative ideas, receive the design effect through model making and then practically apply model making to the design of architecture, indoor environment and industrial products.

Engineering Drawing (4 credits)
Starting with the basic knowledge of landscape design and drawing, the course teaches the solution to the problems that are easily encountered in the current landscape design as well as the methods of construction drawing in the way of theoretical teaching and practical operation.

Architectural Design (4 credits)
Architectural Design courses emphasize the perspective of environmental science to students as a whole view of the built environment, emphasizing the architectural design, interior design, landscape design fuzzy integration between the three, in improving the overall design aesthetic at the same time, students architecture, interior And landscape-scale integration of environmental awareness and the concept and master the basic principles of small architectural design and space to create practices.

Basic Training in Landscape Design (4 credits)

Project Culture for Commercial Space (3 credits)
Focused on commercial spaces, this course aims to offer basic concepts and principles of project establishment, organisation, procedure and management, fine arts for interior design, arts design, interdisciplinary characteristics of engineering, the integrative characteristics of design management in peoples relationships, basic theories about business and enterprise, general procedures of finance and economy, and knowledge on marketing and branding. Based on the conceptual and project analysis, students will be guided to develop a commercial space design, through which to further understand design management, design procedure, and the challenges from design, business and clients that communication procedure confronts.

Model Making (4 credits)
This course helps students learn to skillfully select models, use tools, make and reconstruct models. The course also helps students make models to assist the design, express their creative ideas, receive the design effect through model making and then practically apply model making to the design of architecture, indoor environment and industrial products.

Engineering Drawing (4 credits)

Hotel Interior Design (4 credits)
The function of hotel interior space is complicated and has many layers. It should satisfy the dual needs of its owners and ultimate consumers. Through this course, students will enter the advanced stage of the interior design program. During the course, we will do a field investigation on Macaus world-ranking hotels. We will also collaborate with the international tourism program and make students better understand the operation of these hotels. Through the process of planning and design, information collection, and problem finding and solving, students will learn to how to design hotel rooms in a creative and aesthetic way.

Exhibition Design (4 credits)
This course in conferences, exhibitions, fairs and other activities, the use of the construction, engineering, visual communication and other means, with exhibition facilities, high-tech products, the dissemination of the information and content to be presented before the public. Which involves the booth design, space layout design, graphic design, lighting, props design and the corresponding match between the pavilion design convergence. Furnishings Design (4 credits)
Display Design is a basic course in this discipline. It emphasizes the designing elements and their systematic combination. It cultivates students capability of human-oriented display design to create different environmental atmospheres.

Lighting Design (4 credits)
Lighting design is an advanced course for the programme of Interior Architecture. It offers knowledge on lighting environment, lighting culture, the recent development of contemporary lighting technologies, and relevant theories on optics, lighting equipment and electronics. With the demonstration of actual projects, students will understand the installation, structure and approaches to improving existing lighting conditions. With the assistance of lighting design software, students will develop skills in basic and creative lighting design.

Graduation Design (10 credits)

Major: Visual Communication Design

Design Preliminary (2 credits)

The course imparts to students theoretical, conceptual and practical notions required to design communication elements within the area of graphic design. During the course, students will acquire techniques and methods to create a visual identity design project of a company/service. All areas of the project will be addressed: from scientific studies of shapes and signs, of typographic and symbolic elements, to the forming of coordinated image proposals based on an aesthetic, strategic and technological equilibrium.

Project Culture and Communication Skills (3 credits)

This course provides a theoretical and methodological approach for students to the study of the visual communication design (graphic design, advertising and visual design). The intention is that students acquire a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental concepts of visual communication through semiotic and critical analysis of the basic elements, cultural, visual, and conceptual elements, for example. By integrating semiotic theories with the techniques of creative expression, the course will introduce a range of perspectives and methods which are employed by students to interpret visual communicative phenomena and interdisciplinary dialogue. The main aim of this course is to provide a structural tool for students to learn and elaborate the core concepts of visual communication design.

Audiovisual Languages and Technologies (3 credits)

The course focuses on audiovisual languages in advertising environments, integrating the analytical culture of moving images with audio-video product design techniques: from conception, writing and visualisation techniques,directorial approach, to editing and postproduction.

Art Direction (4 credits)

The course will review current thinking on advertising and will introduce a series of analytical and methodological approach that students could use to develop various creative projects. Based on systematic study and research, students are able to conceive, plan and implement advertising schemes. One of aims of the course is to help students develop logical coherence, aesthetic sensitivity, critical thinking and writing and presentation skills. Another aim is to help students reach higher levels of comprehension and application of advertising-related terms including advertising page structure, synthesis and metaphor, brainstorming, mind mapping, draft, layout, headline, body copy, etc. Eventually, students are able to master the entire advertising campaign, from inspiration, ideation to implementation.

Publishing Design (4 credits)

The course addresses theoretical, methodological and practical understanding of publishing design in all its phases and applications: from magazines to pop-app, focusing initially on the organisation of information on packaging. Particular attention is given to the proper use of typography and iconic elements, concentrating on formats and compositional grids, the equilibrium between text and image management, as well as the choice of materials and press reproduction techniques.

Brand Design (4 credits)

As a part of the CI Design System, visual identity design (VI) is external, direct, transmissible and charming. VI design is the basic element of corporate logo design , which conveys the spirit and unity of philosophy through visual symbols and effectively promotes the company and its visibility and coporate image. VI logo design and visual identificationis the focus of this course.

Typography Design (4 credits)

This course is about arranging the literature form in typography design. It involves the application of font and font size,creation of font, organization of word -word, and word-pattern, including size, density, space, layout, color and even performance.Visual communication is one of the most important foundation courses.

Graphic Design (4 credits)

This subject consists of three parts, graphic language, creative graphics and graphical applications, which enables students to master the "objects to map" modeling capabilities. Through the creative application of line, shape, color,students search into the issues of performance and applications in modern design. Visual communication is one of the most important foundation courses .

Packaging Design (4 credits)

The objective of packaging design is teaching basic knowledge, design methods and techniques to aid product packaging. This course will train students figurative thinking abilities to carry out creative packaging design. Packaging reflects the brand concept, product features and consumer psychology and directly affects the consuming desires. It is a required course for visual communication.

Curation Design (4 credits)

The teaching goal of this course is to present works through vision, hearing, touch, taste and smell. The curation design has strong practicability. Combining with a large number of practical illustrations and analysis, students can understand and use the knowledge they have learned even more visually; also, they can think about the process of works from thought to application and visualization.

Interaction Design (4 credits)
This course teaches the professional knowledge of user interface design, such as information transmission, visual symbols application, so that students can grasp the knowledge of design thinking and visual performance in interface design, and let students show the information to be conveyed in interface design through digital interactive media. On the other hand, through classroom instruction and Practice on the use of relevant design software, students can grasp the basic knowledge of relevant software operation, and can deal with some technical difficulties encountered in practical projects through flexible application of classroom knowledge. As an interface design course in visual art design discipline, it should be based on visual design as a teaching focus, focusing on students'project grasp, creative ideas and visual communication performance.

Multimedia Design (4 credits)
Exploration and analysis of use and navigation features (user experience) using digital devices (web, tablet, smart phone ) is thefocus of this introductory course on integrated communication system design. Students will gain an understanding of information architectures in the transition from paper to digital. Degree Requirements

(1) Take the required subject units/subjects listed in Attachment 1 and obtain 33 credits; (2) Study the units/subjects in the selected major field listed in Attachment 2 and obtain 56 credits; (3) 12 credits from the designated discipline units/subjects in the other major areas listed in Attachment 2 or the elective discipline units/subjects listed in Attachment 3; (4) Study the subject units/subjects listed in Attachment 4 and obtain 36 credits, among which: 1) Take compulsory units/subjects and obtain 30 credits; 2) Take elective units/subjects in the field of science and technology and obtain 2 credits; 3) Take elective units/subjects in the field of social sciences and obtain 2 credits; 4) Take elective units/subjects in the field of humanities and arts and obtain 2 credits. 5) To obtain 6 credits from professional units/subjects of bachelor's degree courses of other schools designated by the university (except assignment projects/graduation projects and units/subjects focusing on practice).

Qualifications of Graduation

A Bachelor's degree shall be awarded to a student who meets the following requirements and is approved by the Academic and Teaching Committee of the University: 1. 143 credits required to complete the course 2. Follow the university's guidelines 3. Pay specified fees and return borrowed University property
