Call for Papers: Doctoral Symposium of the 12th Macau International Communication Week (Theme: Digital and Cultural Macao) MUST “Intelligent Media · Communication · Future” Doctoral Academic Forum

The 12th  Macau International Communication Week, jointly organized by the Faculty of Humanities and Arts at Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) and the Center for Information and Communication Studies (CICS), Fudan University, will be held from April 28 to April 30, 2026, at Macau University of Science and Technology. Under the theme “Digital and Cultural Macao,” this year’s Communication Week will bring together scholars and industry professionals from around the world to participate in a series of events, including academic symposia and a doctoral forum.

The Doctoral Forum welcomes PhD students from communication studies, journalism, sociology, and other humanities and social science disciplines to submit and present academic papers related to the forum theme, “Intelligent Media · Communication · Future”.

Suggested topics include, but are not limited to:

  1. Media and urban culture

  2. Digital platforms, infrastructure, and urban governance

  3. Public participation and global narratives on social media platforms

  4. Public art, visual culture, and city image

  5. Media literacy and news exposure

  6. Artificial intelligence and human–computer interaction

  7. Algorithmic society and digital journalism

  8. Health, environmental, and risk communication

  9. Computational communication

Submission guidelines

  1. Submissions may be in Chinese or English. High-quality papers written in English are especially encouraged. Both full papers and extended abstracts are accepted. Full papers should be approximately 8,000–10,000 words. Extended abstracts should be approximately 1,500–3,000 words. The first author must be a doctoral student.

  2. Manuscripts are suggested to follow APA (7th edition) style guidelines.

  3. The forum encourages diverse research paradigms (including quantitative, qualitative, and critical approaches) that address theoretically significant social science questions.

  4. All submissions will undergo rigorous peer review. Approximately 20 papers will be selected for presentation. The shortlist will be announced on April 2. Selected papers will be presented in person on April 29, 2026.

  5. Awards will be granted for outstanding research papers (full papers only. Authors who initially submitted an extended abstract must submit the full paper by April 20 to be considered for awards). Award-winning papers will receive a certificate and a monetary prize.
