“The Treasures of Prosperity – Murals of Tang Dynasty” Held in M.U.S.T for the First Time

The inauguration ceremony of “The Treasures of Prosperity – Murals of Tang Dynasty in M.U.S.T” was successfully held by Macau University of Science and Technology at Block R (Academic Complex) on Friday, 29th October, 2021.  The exhibition is jointly presented by China Soong Ching Ling Foundation, National Cultural Heritage Administration, Shaanxi Provincial Cultural Heritage Administration, and co-organized by Shaanxi Cultural Heritage Promotion Association, Shaanxi History Museum (Shaanxi Cultural Heritage Promotion Center), and Faculty of Humanities and Arts, Macau University of Science and Technology. The inauguration ceremony was both physical and digital.

Officiating guests include Fu Tiesheng, Director-General of the Coordination Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR); Ran Bo, Head of Policy Research Department, Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the Macao Special Administrative Region; Wang Gang, Head of Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits in the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR); Leong Wai Man, Deputy Director of Macao Cultural Affairs Bureau; Fong Ka Kin, Head of Higher Education Exchange Division at Macao Education and Youth Development Bureau; Mao Lei, Member of Council of China Soong Ching Ling Foundation and President of People's Daily Macao; Tam Chi Kuong, Committee Member of Macao Cultural Heritage Council; Chan Chi Leng, President of the Association of Excellent Traditional Chinese Culture of Macau; Wang Haitao, Chairman of National Conditions Education Association (Macau); Chen Yuan Hong, Secretary-general of Macao Chinese Poetry Association; Zhu Legeng, Dean of Faculty of Humanities and Arts, University of Science and Technology; Lo Ka Nok, Vice President of Macao Heritage Ambassador Association; Chiang Siu Ling, Vice Dean of Faculty of Humanities and Art, University of Science and Technology; and Huang Guang Hui, Program Director.

Wang Jiarui, Vice Chairman of the 12th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Chairman of China Soong Ching Ling Foundation , Li Qun, Vice Minister of Culture and Tourism and Administrator of the National Cultural Heritage Administration, and Luo Wenli, Director General of Shaanxi Provincial Cultural Heritage Administration attended the inauguration ceremony and delivered their speeches virtually. 

Wang Jiarui, Chairman of China Soong Ching Ling Foundation remarked in his speech, “The exhibition sheds light on the prosperity and diversity of the Murals of Tang Dynasty and the excellence of the traditional Chinese culture. The Central People's Government highly values the development of Hong Kong and Macao, launching various measurements to support the long-term development.”  Wang Jiarui encouraged students to take this opportunity to learn from the traditional Chinese culture and widen their horizons.

Li Qun, Vice Minister of Culture and Tourism and Administrator of National Cultural Heritage Administration highlighted in his speech, “Tang Dynasty is a golden age and one of the most prosperous periods in Chinese history.  It is a splendid time celebrated for the wealth of culture and art as well as the open-mindedness of people of the day.  The exhibition engages digital technology to unveil the prosperity and ambience of the Tang Dynasty.  National Cultural Heritage Administration will continue to support the collaboration between cultural institutions in Mainland and Macao to provide young people with diversified cultural exchange experiences.”

Luo wenli, Director General of Shaanxi Provincial Cultural Heritage Administration added in his speech, “The exhibition provides an insight into the cultural exchange along the Silk Road and gives the participants a glimpse into the visual impact bought by the murals of Tang Dynasty, as well as the brilliance of the Tang Dynasty, from politics, economy, art and culture, to social ambiance, in which China had entered a new era of prosperity.  We are glad that the exhibition is successfully held in M.U.S.T and we hope to expand and strengthen the cultural exchange between Shaanxi and Macao and showcase more Shaanxi archaeological discoveries in the future.”

Zhang Zhiqing, Dean of Faculty of Humanities and Art, Macau University of Science and Technology remarked in his speech, “Macau University of Science and Technology has been actively supporting the cultural exchange between Macao and Mainland and creating art and cultural exchange platforms.  We hope to bring opportunities to M.U.S.T. teachers and students through this extraordinary artistic experience”

After the inauguration ceremony, distinguished guests and students visited the exhibition located on the 6th floor of Block R (Art Gallery).  “The Treasures of Prosperity – Murals of Tang Dynasty” features mural paintings from Chang’an during the Tang Dynasty. The mural paintings are presented in digital technology, videos, images, etc., to unveil the prosperity of the Tang Dynasty. There will also be Tangzhuang tryouts, mural painting session and seminars on the Murals of Tang Dynasty. 

The exhibition is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day until November 29. Exhibition venue is located on the 6th floor of Building R (Art Gallery) of the university.  Enterprises, artists and the public are welcomed.
